Swedish m/1867-89 Remington rolling block rifle S/H Calibre 8 x 58R
Product Details
The m/67-89 rifles were converted from m/1867 long rifles starting in 1889. The original calibre was 12.17x42R rim-fire many of which had been converted to 12.7x44R centre-fire for civilian competition shooting.
The m/1867-89 conversions were chambered for the new 8 x 58R Danish cartridge originally developed for the Danish Krag Jorgensen rifle but also adopted by the Sweden and Norway for their Rolling Block rifles.
Originally a black powder cartridge the 8 x 58 R developed into a smokeless round shooting a modern Spitzer bullet.
This is a fine Swedish Rolling block in very good overall condition with a sound bore for shooting. It was converted in 1892 and carries the inspector stamps for Olaf Darling Gibson (OG) and Gustav Edvard Miller (GM) from the Carl Gustav factory where the conversions were carried out.
The rifle is complete with all serial numbers matching, rear ladder and volley sights and clearing rod.
Rolling Blocks are accurate rifle and the 8 x 58R is a good cartridge to reload for. I have one of these in my own collection and it is one of the most accurate military rifles I have.
These rifles were the predecessors to the legendary Swedish Mauser series of rifles and no collection should be without one.
Cases are available for this rifle.
