Israeli CZ BRNO P18 Rifle S/H Calibre 7.62 NATO
Product Details
The P18 is the Czech copy of the ubiquitous WW2 German K98 Mauser and was originally chambered in 8mm Mauser.
This particular rifle is in very good condition with deep bluing and good woodwork for its age. The barrel is in good condition with sharp rifling. Being chambered for 7.62 NATO good ammunition is plentiful and available.
After the Second World War the state of Israel was being created in Palestine and Haganah, the precursor to the Israeli Defence Force (IDF), were arming up. They bought up huge stocks or redundant German K98 Mausers and millions of rounds of ammunition. By 1948 Britain had imposed an arms embargo but Haganah and other Jewish forces were still arming and a secret $12,000,000 contract was made with BRNO in Czechoslovakia for arms which included 4.500 riles and 50,000,000 rounds of ammunition. This rifle would have been part of that shipment.
In 1958 the IDF adopted the FN FAL rifle as their primary weapon and all the Mausers in stock were converted to the 7.62mm NATO round. These conversions had 7.62 stamped on the butt and the receiver ring.
A very nice rifle with an interesting history that would grace any collection and would make an excellent shooter for Historic Military competitions.
