Savage No4 MK1 Rifle S/H Calibre .303” British
Product Details
This is a very nice example of an early Stevens-Savage No4 MK 1.
During World War Two the US arms manufacturer Stevens Savage was contracted by the British government to produce No4 rifles under the Lend Lease scheme. Savage along with the Longbranch factory in Canada produced the No4 MK1* variant which simplified the manufacture of No4s with the main difference being the bolt head release on the receiver being replaced by a cut out on the receiver rail.
This rifle is an interesting and rare example of a Savage Lend Lease No4. It is in No4 MK1 configuration with bolt release button, round cocking piece and rare 6 groove L/H twist barrel that were fitted to early Savage rifles before being superseded by the two groove barrels. It also has the early grooved handguard and brass butt plate.
The rifle is dated 1942 and this agrees with the serial numbers 7C prefix.
The receiver is stamped with the Lend Lease “US PROPERTY” markings.
The rifle is in very good overall condition for its age with the bore being clean and the rifling being sharp.
A fine example of a rare No4 that would be a talking point of any Enfield collection.
