A nice honest example of another classic Mauser rifle. Originally designed by a Portuguese infantry officer, José A. Vergueiro, it was put into production in 1904 as the model 1904. It was based on the classic G98 Mauser with a new bolt based on the Mannlicher action. The rifle was originally chambered for the 6.5x58mm Vergueiro round designed for the rifle however in 1939 the Portuguese adopted the K98 Mauser rifle in 7.92 X 57 and the 1904s were converted to this calibre as well as having the barrels and forends shortened and new sights added making it the Model 1904/39.
This particular rifle has matching numbers through out with an excellent bore, the wood is dark but is in very good condition for its age and will make good shooting rifle for the range and also the Historic competitions.
