M/96 Carl Gustaf (Swedish Mauser) Bolt Action rifle S/H Calibre 6.5 x 55

Product Details

Undoubtedly the finest of Paul Mauser’s famous line of bolt action rifles the Swedish Mausers are the best made and use one of the finest smokeless rounds in the world.

When Sweden decided to adopt the Mauser action rifle on the 7th of August 1894 their specification for the receiver and bolt alloys was one of the highest and the copper content ensures the bright stainless look that helps define Swedish Mausers.

The M/96 long rifle variant was adopted on March 20th 1896 and production continued ‘till 1925 with approximately 532,000 M/96 rifles being made during this period mainly at the Carl Gustafs factory in Eskilstuna.

This particular rifle is in excellent condition and was made in 1922, a low production year with only 5112 being manufactured. It has the correct threaded muzzle and cap which was used to fit the Blank Firing Adaptor for the wooden bullets that were used in training to give recruits the feel of the rifles recoil with issue ammunition.

The rifle is in excellent overall condition with finely figured woodwork, all matching numbers except for the cleaning rod and a very good bore that still delivers the legendary Swedish Mauser accuracy.

Interestingly this rifle is one of the 85,000 rifles that Sweden sent to Finland to help fight the Russians in the Winter War. As evidenced by the SA stamp “Suomen Armeija” (Finish Army) on the left hand side of the receiver. The inspectors stamp HA for Frans Harald Andreasson. Inspector at Carl Gustavs from October 1920 to September 1923 is also present on the left hand side.

Rifles in as good condition as this one are getting very rare nowadays and this presents the collector and shooter with a unique opportunity to acquire a fine example of these much sought after rifles.
